Surau Langgar Rindu (Musolla)(Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia)



This surau located in Kampung Rhu Tapai, Merang, Kuala Terengganu was built to be immortalized as a house of worship for the local community as well as a stopover for those who travel to perform prayers.

This 1,064 square foot surau actually belongs to an art activist named Encik Arif Karimi, who is 60 years old plus a poet as well as an art activist. Wasted tembesu tree wood as well as cengal wood donated by the public are used as the basic building material of this creation which is simply fastened and connected using screws.




More amazingly, the construction work of the surau was built without any sketch of the plan started since March 2014 and is now complete.

Sometimes the construction of this surau is disrupted due to financial problems, but he feels grateful because his intention to build this surau got support from all  individual coming from other places who came forward to donate cash or building materials.

Apart from the surau, the art activist is also building a center for Islamic studies Madrasah Al-Insan Saka Iman near the surau to accommodate 50 students to deepen the science of religion.


“Violation has four meanings including violation, surau or madrasah, place religious studies, the royal cemetery as well as the roof of the house has a porch connected from the original roof.

“So, to enrich and beautify our language, I chose to call it this house of worship as 'langgar' which means surau, "he said.

According to him, 'Longing' means longing for the house of ALLAH SWT, longing to do good deeds as the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. “Besides, longing to read the Quran, longing to death as well as longing to make all good. So, I immortalized this name for a house of ALLAH SWT that I am call it Langgar Rindu, "he said.






The unique surau named “Langgar Rindu” not only has unique architecture but also has its own special features which symbolizes earnestness and sincerity. The average tourist who visits the surau "Langgar Rindu" which is now attention from within and outside the country after it spread on social media recently.

That is because of the uniqueness of "Langgar Rindu" that mesmerizes the view, it also got attention among non -Muslim visitors very much admire the beauty of its architecture to capture photos and videos as memories when visiting Terengganu.
